The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was opened for signing in Rio De Janeiro in 1993. The convention recognized for the first time in international law that the conservation of biodiversity is a “common concern for humankind”[1]. The agreement covers ecosystems, species and genetic resources, such as seeds.
