There are many reasons for this. Forests across the world are home to the majority of the world’s different tree, bird and animal species, but every year huge patches of forest are destroyed when the land is converted for humans to use for agriculture, or other activities<ref>[https://www.unep.org/news-and-stories/press-release/un-report-worlds-forests-continue-shrink-urgent-action-needed UNEP “As the world’s forests continue to shrink, urgent action is needed to safeguard their biodiversity”]</ref>.
